ACNE

How to prevent acne

Along with our targeted treatments, these are some easy steps you can take to help prevent acne and pimples from forming.

• Keep your face clean by washing regularly with a cleanser suited to your skin type. This will help remove excess oil, dirt and sweat that can exacerbate blemishes.

• Avoid the temptation to pick at or squeeze pimples, as this can leave scarring after the spot heals, and cause blemishes to spread.

• Avoid touching your face. Bacteria from everyday surfaces and objects can easily be transferred from your hands to your skin, so try to avoid spreading these as much as possible.

• Don't forget your moisturiser. Even oily skin types benefit from keeping skin hydrated and nourished – just make sure you're choosing a product that's non-comedogenic, which means it won't clog pores.

• Be sun safe – UV rays can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the marks left on skin after a pimple or other blemish has healed) and can also cause redness and inflammation. Always make sure you're using sunscreen and try to limit the amount of sun exposure your skin is getting.

• Diet – While the jury's out on whether things like chocolate or dairy products are definitively linked to acne, a nutritious diet based on plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains (and less processed, sugary food) will help you feel great from the inside out.

ACNE SCARRING

How it works?

The Pen containing 12 microscopic needles and oscillate at a rate of close to 110 revolutions per second. When the needle tip makes contact with the skin, the needles create tiny puncture in the skin's surface, causing micro-trauma, and inducing an immune response, and subsequently, the creation of new healthy collagen. The punctures also act as micro-channels that carry topical nutrients used during the treatment deep into skin layers for an increased effect.

Difference between normal dermaroller and dermapen?

.
The Pen tip has a much smaller surface area which comes in contact with the skin, which allows it to treat those hard to reach areas quickly, easily, and effectively. Even though it may seem that such a small contact surface would make the treatment much longer and much more tedious, the truth is to the contrary; because the needles vibrate at such a high oscillation rate, the Pen “glides” across the skin with ease, providing for quicker treatment times.

Medical grade Facial peels– removes any dead cells by penetrating deep within the skin- can naturally improve the appearance of acne scars.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP)– aka Vampire Facial in combination with a Dermapen it reduces the scars by >70%, the platelet rich plasma is injected beneath the acne scars, this is to stimulate natural collagen and can speed the healing process up. Also helpful to reduce pigmentation, even tone and texture.

There is a range of scars that can form as a result of acne including ice pick scars, atrophic scars and hypertrophic scars. If a scar is bumpy it’s referred to as an ice pick scar, whereas if a scar is flat to the surface but is visible, you have what’s known as an atrophic scar, deeper scars are known as box scars.  A thick, lumpy scar is one that is raised off the skin, this is a hypertrophic or keloid scar.

ROSACEA

Reduce facial redness

Rosacea is a common and often frustrating skin condition.  At Skincodes clinic, we have numerous treatments available to help reduce its appearance.

Rosacea usually first appears as subtle reddening on the face, and over time, can develop into inflammation and skin eruptions. Common symptoms of rosacea include flushing or blushing which occurs easily and lasts longer than normal, burning or stinging sensations, or visible red lines on the face. While rosacea usually affects the face, it can also occur on the chest, neck, ears, back and scalp.

Who gets rosacea?

Rosacea is most common in adults aged 30-60, affecting women and men 2:1.

What causes rosacea?

Exact causes of rosacea are still unknown, however a variety of lifestyle factors (such as particular foods and stress) can trigger rosacea outbreaks. More recently it has been postulated that H.pylori a bacteria affecting the gastrointestinal system can be attributing to the development of rosacea.

What to eat

Some people find certain foods and drinks trigger their symptoms more than others, so you may want to consider how your diet could be affecting your rosacea flare-ups.  Spices such as black pepper, cayenne and chili powder or drinks such as hot coffee or tea may contribute to inflammation.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS FOR ROSACEA

We offer a range clinical and cosmetic treatments. During your clinic consultation our Consultant Dermatologist will carefully examine your skin. Prescription medications such as oral antibiotics, oral vasodilators and topical creams can be prescribed in moderate and severe rosacea cases provided that there are no contraindications. PIGMENTATION

Treat pigmentation in skin of colour

Skincodes clinic specialises in treating pigmentation in Asian, Arabic and Afro-Caribbean skin types. Pigmentation is a common skin concern that can appear due to a variety of factors. Common treatments like Laser, Glycolic and TCA peels can cause Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) in darker skin, so should be avoided.

-Hyperpigmentation: Where dark spots appear on the skin. This is the more common form and is caused by an increase in melanin. One of the most common hyperpigmentary problems is Melasma. This condition is characterised by tan or brown patches on the face, most commonly appearing on the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead and upper lips.

What causes pigmentation?

Sun exposure is a common cause of hyperpigmentation on areas that frequently see the sun, such as our hands and face.

Melasma, meanwhile, is believed to be caused by hormonal changes such as pregnancy. Certain medications can also cause hyperpigmentation.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs when a blemish or other skin injury heals, leaving a discoloured mark behind such as acne.

TREATMENTS FOR PIGMENTATION

It's important to limit sun exposure to stop existing pigmentation from darkening, and prevent new spots from forming. A broad-spectrum sunscreen at least SPF 50+ is a must-have to protect your skin, and should be a daily part of your beauty routine.

Skincodes offers a targeted medical grade facial peel DERM LIGHTEN which contains a high concentration of Mandelic acid (almonds derivatives). It works by calming down the hyperactive pigment producing cells (melanocytes), bringing them back to their normal level. This equalises melanin production in-line with the surrounding skin cells, eliminating the colour difference and giving the skin a more even tone overall. This peel is gentle and will not cause PIH and rebound hyperpigmentation. Other available treatments include traxenemic acid injections and mesotherapy containing lightening ingredients such as glutathione. SAGGY SKIN

Restore skin for a fuller, more youthful appearance

Lines and wrinkles aren’t the only signs of ageing, facial volume loss is another age giveaway. Our anti-ageing skin treatments can help restore youthful fullness to your face.

As we get older, our muscle structure begins to change, and the fat pads beneath our skin start to change position resulting in a loss of facial volume. This can cause some of the below.

•Cheeks flatten and fall into a lower position, causing skin to droop and sag around the muscle

•Smile lines (nasolabial folds)

•Jowls

•Loss of lip volume, reducing fullness and definition

Fortunately, anti-ageing skin treatments can help correct age-related volume loss

RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS

At Skin Codes, we have a range of skin treatments to target facial volume loss for plumper, younger looking skin. Dermal filler helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. Other recommended treatments:

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

PRP is an innovative non-surgical treatment that can be used for a wide range of ailments, helping to relieve pain and naturally promoting the long-lasting healing of various conditions from musculoskeletal issues, reduction of scarring and the promotion of hair growth and facial rejuvenation.

How does PRP Treatment work?

A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient into a sterile tube in the exact same manner as a standard blood sample. The tube containing a patient’s blood is placed into a centrifuge and spun to separate the plasma and platelets from the other blood components.

After a few minutes, the plasma and concentrated platelets are removed from the same tube and re-introduced into the patient at the site of the injury, scar, skin, obvious lines or wrinkles. Using a small sterile needle, your physician will inject the PRP in and around the desired site.

PDO (Thread lift)

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

This rejuvenating aesthetic treatment uses a synthetic absorbable suture made from polydioxanone (PDO) to lift and tighten loose or sagging skin, improve facial contour, and reduce facial wrinkles and folds. The PDO threads help stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, which will be left behind when the threads are absorbed by the body four to six months after injection. The newly generated collagen will help improve the elasticity and tone of the skin and provide a lasting improvement to the treated area.

Benefits of a PDO Thread Lift:

•Minimal downtime

•Non-surgical

•Quick treatment sessions

•Instant results

•Stimulates the natural production of collagen

What can I expect during a treatment session?

We will apply a topical numbing cream to the designated treatment area prior to a treatment session to reduce any discomfort associated with the injection process. PDO thread lift treatments can last for anywhere between 20 minutes and one hour depending on the area being treated. There is little to no downtime associated with this treatment and most patients can immediately return to their normal activities after a treatment session.

When will I see results?

You will see an immediate improvement in the treated area after a treatment session. The results of this treatment will continue to improve as the PDO threads stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, with final results appearing about three to four months after your treatment session. Results of a PDO thread lift can last for up to two to three years. Results may vary.

Beautiful and above all extremely natural looking end results

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

PRP therapy is used in hair restoration for natural looking results

With a thin needle, your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp. Then the growth factors in your blood cells do their job and hair growth is naturally stimulated.

PRP Hair Restoration is suitable for both men and women. It is a state of the art, non surgical, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. It is an injectable treatment which uses the patient’s own blood.

Our blood plasma (PRP) contains active growth factors which can promote hair growth. Helping to restore one’s confidence, the end result is a fuller, healthier looking head of hair.

The PRP Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy: what is it and how does it work?

The doctor takes a little blood which is then treated in a centrifuge so that only the enriched cells or platelets (PRP) remain.

The PRP or highly concentrated Platelet Rich Plasma, including essential growth proteins, is injected into the scalp or areas to be treated using a special micro needle.

It is possible to use PRP Hair Loss Therapy alone to promote hair growth or it can also be used in combination with hair transplant or restoration surgery.

Frequently asked questions about PRP hair treatment

•Does it hurt?
A topical numbing cream applied 30 mins prior to procedure.

•What are the risks?
There is no risk of an allergic reaction with PRP therapy because the enriched plasma has been produced from the patient’s own blood. A concentrated amount of white blood cells make up part of the PRP which are the body’s natural defenders against infections. Infections are therefore extremely rare.

•How long does PRP treatment takes?
The actual procedure normally takes about 60 minutes, depending upon the areas being treated.

•Do I need to repeat this treatment?
Depending upon the patient’s individual needs and treatment plan, PRP treatment can be repeated until the desired result has been achieved. Our experience shows that regular PRP treatment every 3 to 6 months can be very beneficial

HYPERHIDROSIS

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterised by excessive sweating, usually in areas where there is a high concentration of sweat glands such as the hands, feet, armpits and the groin area. Excessive sweating can even occur when temperatures are cooler or at rest. It is estimated that 2 - 3% of the population suffers from hyperhidrosis, with less than 40% of those affected seeking medical advice. Excess sweating is a common problem that can be solved easily, leaving you with dry, soft skin regardless of the heat.

At the Skincodes Clinic our preferred treatment method is to avoid invasive surgery and to treat the affected areas with Botox® as we believe these to be the most effective and safe.

The administration of Botox® to the overactive sweat glands. The protein acts by blocking excess nerve signals to the sweat glands, thus reducing the amount of sweat the body releases. With Botox® you will notice a significant reduction in sweating, which can last for a period of 3 –6 months, after which many patients return for further treatment.

MOLE CHECK

What makes our mole check service different?

Dermatologist Led: every Mole Check patient is seen by one of our consultant Dermatologists and not a nurse.

•Long Term Monitoring: our Dermatologist led approach allows us to spot even the subtlest of changes and moles over time.

Dermoscopy: any mole that a Dermatologist is concerned about will be examined on the spot under a high powered dermatology microscope.

Treatment: we offer same day removal of worrisome moles. The sample will be sent for histology; to the laboratory to get tested.

Plastic Surgeons: for the removal of bigger or deeper moles, or those in more visible places, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon can undertake the procedure to minimise any scarring risk.

For more information, book in your clinic consultation with our expert team.

Moles are often harmless, but they can be irritating and catch on clothing and jewellery alike. Occasionally, they can be a sign of cancer. The NHS and NICE guidelines recommend having your moles checked by an expert every six months; at a minimum. If you’ve had a mole removed, it’s every three months.

The good news is that skin cancers from moles that are found and removed early are almost always curable and early diagnosis matters. A person with a melanoma of less than 0.75mm thick can expect to have a 95% cure rate. 52% of the melanoma we find are discovered by monitoring and identifying the tiniest of changes each time you come in with our mole-mapping service. Changes can be monitored both externally and internally for signs that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

SKIN TAGS

Skin tags can vary in colour, shape and size. They are soft features that tend to occur on the neck, armpit or groin and despite not being overly obvious – they can affect our self-confidence.

The harmless lesions are formed as a result of ageing, they tend to be prevalent in obese people or people who have gained or lost a lot of weight.

Skincodes Clinic offer skin tag removal treatments which includes:

Skin tag removal via diathermy, uses an electrical current and needle, working in contrast to the freezing method, by instead heating up the lesion, allowing the skin tag to easily be cut from the skin surface.

What are skin tags?

Skin tags are very common soft harmless lesions that appear to hang off the skin.

Skin tags develop in both men and women as they grow older. They are skin coloured or darker and range in size from 1mm to 5mm. They are most often found in the skin folds (neck, armpits, groin). They tend to be more numerous in obese people and in those with type 2 diabetes.

Treatments

At Skincodes Clinic we offer a wide range of treatments for skin tag removal.

Skin tags can be removed for cosmetic reasons by the following methods:

•*Electrosurgery (diathermy)

•*Shave excision

*Lesions such as warts, milia, and dermatosis papularis nigrans (DPN) can be treated similarly using the above mentioned methods.
